Krono Laminate Review: K-Series 12mm From AC3 to AC5 Compared With Egger and Kronotex

How Krono laminate compares in our Toronto catalogue: 12mm boards from AC3 to AC5, where Egger costs less, and how the Krono, Swiss Krono and Kronotex names differ.

Is Krono laminate good? For most Toronto homes the useful answer is that it depends on which Krono you pick, because the name covers boards from AC3 to AC5 at very different prices. This page stays on the Krono K-series in our laminate flooring collection: what the specs say, what each step up the rating ladder costs, and where Egger undercuts it or matches it. Every number below comes from our live catalogue, so you can repeat the arithmetic with your own room size. For a wider look across every German brand we carry, our six-brand laminate comparison is the better starting point.

Quick answer: is Krono laminate worth buying?

Krono is a reasonable pick when you want 12mm thickness at a mid-range price, and the AC rating you choose matters more than the name on the box. Here is what the catalogue shows:

  • Eight products are listed under the vendor name Krono. All are 12mm, all are click-lock, and they are rated AC3 (four products), AC4 (one) or AC5 (three).
  • A ninth, K8630, has Krono in its name but is filed under Swiss Krono. It is 10mm and AC4, so it is not part of the 12mm line.
  • Seven of the eight Krono-vendor products are in stock as of our latest price check. The one that is not, K8252, is left out of the tables.
  • Against Egger, Krono is thicker at every rating, but it is not the lower price at every rating. The comparison table further down shows where each brand costs less.

The Krono K-series at a glance

This table lists every Krono-named product we have in stock. Cost per square foot is the box price divided by the square feet in the box, rounded to the cent. K8630 is the one row filed under a different vendor name.

Product Filed under AC rating Thickness Box price Sq ft per box Cost per sq ft
Krono K6207 Krono AC3 12mm $23.00 13.61 $1.69
Krono K8630 Swiss Krono AC4 10mm $30.46 15.31 $1.99
Krono 773 Krono AC3 12mm $31.64 13.24 $2.39
Krono K6775 Krono AC3 12mm $32.53 13.61 $2.39
Krono K8215 Krono AC3 12mm $32.53 13.61 $2.39
Krono K6991 Brick Oak Krono AC4 12mm $38.07 15.93 $2.39
Krono K8254 Krono AC5 12mm $51.94 17.37 $2.99
Krono A2222 Krono AC5 12mm $51.94 15.93 $3.26

Prices checked October 4, 2026. Box prices and coverage come from our current catalogue.

Three things stand out. The spread from the entry board to the top of the line is $3.26 minus $1.69, or $1.57 per sq ft. Four products share the $2.39 price point, and one of them, K6991, is AC4 while the other three are AC3, so within that price band the higher rating costs nothing extra per sq ft. K6991 is also the wider plank at 7.5 inch, against 5 inch for K6775 and K8215.

We have left plank width out of the table for several rows because the title and the spec field on those listings differ slightly. If width matters to your room, ask us to confirm it before you order.

Krono K6207 (AC3) against K8254 (AC5): what the price step buys

The most useful comparison inside the line is the entry board against the AC5 that most shoppers weigh it against. Both are 12mm click-lock laminate with Germany in the product title, sold by the box.

Spec Krono K6207 Krono K8254
AC rating AC3 AC5
Thickness 12mm 12mm
Install method Click-lock Click-lock
Box price $23.00 $51.94
Sq ft per box 13.61 17.37
Cost per sq ft $1.69 $2.99

The gap works out to $2.99 minus $1.69, or $1.30 more per sq ft for the AC5. A K8254 box also covers 17.37 sq ft against 13.61 sq ft for K6207, so you buy fewer boxes for the same floor. On a 500 sq ft room with a 5% waste allowance, the AC5 costs $713.14 more in material than the AC3. That figure is worked out in the Egger section below and is before HST, underlay, installation and delivery.

Beyond the rating, our catalogue gives thickness, install method and coverage for both boards, but no separate wear-layer figure. We would rather say that plainly than guess at what the extra $1.30 changes underfoot. Our guide to what AC3, AC4, AC5 and AC6 ratings mean explains the scale in detail, so you can decide whether the step from AC3 to AC5 is worth $1.30 per sq ft for your rooms.

Krono against Egger: same AC rating, different thickness and price

To keep the comparison fair we match boards by AC rating and use only in-stock products. Egger's AC3 and AC4 boards in our catalogue are 8mm, and its AC5 boards are 11mm. Krono is 12mm across the line.

AC rating Krono (thickness, cost per sq ft) Egger (thickness, cost per sq ft)
AC3 K6207: 12mm, $1.69 EM7206: 8mm, $1.89
AC4 K6991: 12mm, $2.39 EM7188: 8mm, $1.99
AC5 K8254: 12mm, $2.99; A2222: 12mm, $3.26 EM7208: 11mm, $2.51; EM7201: 11mm, $2.99

Reading across the rows:

  • At AC3, K6207 is $0.20 per sq ft below Egger EM7206 and 4mm thicker.
  • At AC4, the Egger EM7188 is $0.40 per sq ft below K6991, and K6991 is 4mm thicker.
  • At AC5, Egger EM7208 is $0.48 per sq ft below K8254. Egger EM7201 matches K8254 at $2.99 and is 1mm thinner.

So the honest summary is that Krono buys you thickness, and wins on price only at the entry AC3 rating. If price is your main driver at AC4 or AC5, Egger is worth pricing alongside. For the thickness trade-off itself, our 12mm vs 8mm laminate guide goes further, and our Egger, Kronotex and Swiss Krono comparison covers the Egger side.

What 500 sq ft of material costs

Per-square-foot prices hide one detail: you buy whole boxes. For a 500 sq ft floor we add the 5% waste allowance (500 sq ft × 1.05 = 525 sq ft), divide by the sq ft in one box, round up to whole boxes, then multiply by the box price.

Product AC rating Cost per sq ft Sq ft per box Boxes needed Material cost
Krono K6207 AC3 $1.69 13.61 39 $897.00
Egger EM7206 AC3 $1.89 21.42 25 $1,012.00
Krono K8254 AC5 $2.99 17.37 31 $1,610.14
Egger EM7201 AC5 $2.99 16.15 33 $1,593.57

This is material only, before HST, with no underlay, installation or delivery. Two results are worth noticing. K6207 comes in $115.00 below EM7206 for the same floor. And K8254 and EM7201 share a $2.99 price per sq ft, yet the Egger total is $16.57 lower, because the two boxes differ in size and price and the boxes round up differently. Run your own room through the box maths rather than comparing per-foot prices alone.

Krono, Krono Original, Swiss Krono and Kronotex on our product pages

Searching for Krono turns up several names that look alike. We list them as separate vendors, and this page makes no claim about how the companies behind them are related. What matters to a buyer is that each vendor name carries its own specs, ratings and prices.

Vendor name Products listed In stock AC ratings Thickness Cost per sq ft (in stock)
Krono 8 7 AC3 to AC5 12mm $1.69 to $3.26
Krono Original 1 1 AC3 12mm $2.39
Swiss Krono 8 8 AC4 to AC6 10mm and 14mm $1.99 to $3.39
Kronotex 7 7 AC5 10mm and 12mm $2.39 to $3.09

Why K8630 trips people up

K8630 is the product shoppers most often mix up with the 12mm line. Its title starts with Krono and it is a click-lock board in a 5 inch plank, but our catalogue files it under Swiss Krono, so a search for the vendor Krono will not list it. At $30.46 per 15.31 sq ft box it comes to $1.99 per sq ft. That is $0.40 below the 12mm AC4 K6991, and the difference is 2mm of thickness.

Where Krono Original fits

Krono Original has a single listing in our catalogue: Brook Walnut K8217, a 12mm AC3 board at $32.53 per 13.61 sq ft box, or $2.39 per sq ft. That box price and coverage match K6775 and K8215 in the Krono listing, so for budgeting purposes they sit in the same tier. Choose between them on colour and plank look rather than price.

Kronotex and Swiss Krono are broader ranges than the K-series. Kronotex is all AC5 in our catalogue, and Swiss Krono runs from AC4 to AC6. If one of those is what you are shopping for, the six-brand comparison linked at the top of this page lines them up with Egger and the rest.

Which Krono board fits which job?

  • Tightest budget: K6207 at $1.69 per sq ft is the entry point, a 5 inch AC3 plank.
  • Wider plank without a bigger price per sq ft: K6991 at $2.39 is a 7.5 inch AC4 board. The three AC3 boards at the same price per sq ft are Krono 773, K6775 and K8215.
  • Top rating in the K-series: K8254 at $2.99 or A2222 at $3.26, both AC5 and 12mm. Price Egger EM7208 at $2.51 beside them if thickness is the less important spec for you.
  • Thinner and cheaper than the 12mm AC4: K8630 at $1.99, with the reminder that it is 10mm.

Everything here is material only. Underlay choices, installation, trim and delivery depend on your subfloor, building and access, so we quote them once we know the job. Krono laminate FAQ

Which Krono boards are AC5?

Our AC5 Krono options are K8254 and A2222, and both are 12mm. A third AC5 board, K8252, is listed but was out of stock at our latest price check. We do not publish a lifespan, because that depends on use and care, so treat the AC rating and thickness as the facts to compare.

How does Krono compare with Egger on price?

It depends on the rating. Krono is cheaper per sq ft at AC3, Egger is cheaper at AC4, and at AC5 the answer depends on the board: Egger EM7208 is lower, EM7201 is equal to K8254 and A2222 is higher.

Where can I buy Swiss Krono flooring in Toronto?

We list eight Swiss Krono products, spanning AC4 to AC6, and every one showed as available when we checked prices. Open the laminate collection to see them, or send us your room details and we will confirm availability for your quantity.

What is the difference between Krono and Krono Original?

On our site they are separate vendor names. Krono has eight listings from AC3 to AC5, while Krono Original has one, the AC3 Brook Walnut K8217. We do not state anything about the companies behind the names, so compare the product specs directly.

Is Krono K8630 part of the 12mm K-series?

No. K8630 is a 10mm AC4 board filed under Swiss Krono, even though Krono appears in its name. Its price per sq ft is $1.99, against $2.39 for the 12mm AC4 K6991.
