Product Questions
Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood and can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifetime.
Engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer on top of a multi-layer core, making it more dimensionally stable — ideal for basements, over radiant heat, or humid environments.
SPC (Stone Polymer Composite) LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) is a 100% waterproof, rigid-core flooring that looks like real wood. It's extremely durable, scratch-resistant, and ideal for high-traffic areas, kitchens, bathrooms, or homes with pets and kids.
Laminate is a cost-effective flooring option with a photographic wood-look layer protected by a tough wear layer. It's great for living rooms, bedrooms, and low-moisture areas. Our laminate products carry AC3 to AC6 ratings — the higher the AC rating, the more durable the floor.
The AC (Abrasion Class) rating measures a laminate floor's resistance to wear and scratching:
| Rating | Best For |
|---|---|
| AC3 | Moderate residential traffic |
| AC4 | General residential & light commercial |
| AC5 | Heavy commercial use |
| AC6 | Very heavy commercial use (our highest grade) |
We carry a wide variety of species including Oak, Walnut, Maple, Hickory, and more. Oak is the most popular for its balance of durability and natural beauty, while Walnut offers a richer, darker tone for a more luxurious look.
The Janka rating measures how resistant a wood species is to denting and wear. Higher = harder.
| Species | Janka Rating | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Maple | ~1450 | High-traffic, commercial |
| Oak | ~1290 | All-round residential |
| Walnut | ~1010 | Lower-traffic, luxury aesthetic |
| Pine | ~870 | Rustic, character-driven looks |
- Laminate: Typically 10mm–14mm thick, widths from 5" to 8"+
- Engineered Hardwood: Typically ½"–¾" thick, widths from 3" to 7"+
- SPC/LVP Vinyl: Typically 4mm–8mm thick with 6"–9" wide planks
- Solid Hardwood: Typically ¾" thick, widths from 2¼" to 5"+
Wider and longer planks create a more open, contemporary look; narrower planks give a more traditional feel.
- Matte – Low sheen, hides scratches and dust, very popular in modern homes
- Satin – Slight sheen, the most versatile and common finish
- Semi-Gloss / High Gloss – Bold reflective look, shows scratches more easily
- Brushed / Wire-Brushed – Textured surface that adds character and hides wear
- Hand-Scraped – Rustic, artisan look with deliberate texture variations
Pre-finished hardwood is sanded and coated at the factory — durable, consistent finish, ready right out of the box with no drying time or fumes.
Site-finished hardwood is sanded and stained after installation, giving you full control over color and a perfectly seamless look between boards. More customization, but more time and disruption.
- Light & natural tones – Blonde oak, whitewash, and greige for a Scandinavian aesthetic
- Warm mid-tones – Honey and caramel oaks that bring warmth without feeling dated
- Cool greys – Still popular in modern and industrial-style interiors
- Dark dramatic tones – Espresso, smoked oak, and charcoal for luxury and boldness
Our team can help match flooring tones to your walls, cabinetry, and overall design direction.
The wear layer is the clear protective coating on top of SPC/LVP vinyl, measured in mils (thousandths of an inch):
| Wear Layer | Best For |
|---|---|
| 6 mil | Light residential use |
| 12 mil | Standard residential use |
| 20 mil | Heavy residential / light commercial |
| 28 mil+ | Commercial and heavy-duty use |
The thicker the wear layer, the longer your floor will look new under heavy traffic.
Yes — the SPC core itself is completely waterproof. However, standing water sitting at seams or edges for extended periods can seep into the subfloor below. Proper installation with attention to transitions and perimeter sealing is important in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens.
SPC (Stone Polymer Composite) — dense, rigid stone-based core. Thinner, more dimensionally stable, handles temperature fluctuations better. Better suited for commercial or high-traffic use.
WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) — foamed wood-plastic core. Slightly softer and warmer underfoot, but less rigid. Better for comfort-focused residential settings.
Some of our laminate products offer water-resistant surface treatments, but laminate is generally not waterproof — the HDF core can swell if exposed to standing water. For wet areas, we recommend SPC/LVP vinyl. Our premium AC5 and AC6 laminate lines are treated to resist surface moisture from everyday spills.
We carry trusted brands including Swiss Krono and Krono Original — primarily manufactured in Germany, where laminate flooring was invented and quality standards remain the highest in the world. We also carry engineered hardwood and SPC products from leading North American and European suppliers.
Germany is the birthplace of laminate flooring and home to some of the world's most advanced flooring manufacturing. German-made laminate is held to strict quality standards — including precise thickness tolerances, superior locking systems, and rigorous AC wear rating testing — giving you a more consistent, durable, and longer-lasting product.
VALINGE is a patented click-lock system — the most widely licensed in the world — that allows planks to snap together firmly without glue. The VALINGE 5G system uses a flexible plastic tongue that makes installation faster and easier, even for DIYers, while creating an extremely tight joint that resists gaps and movement over time.

Before You Buy
Multiply the length × width of your room in feet to get your square footage. We recommend adding:
- 10% extra for standard installations
- 15% extra for diagonal or herringbone patterns
Our team is happy to help you calculate — just bring your room dimensions to the showroom or contact us.
Yes. We strongly recommend taking samples home to view them in your own lighting and alongside your furniture before committing to a purchase. Lighting makes a huge difference — flooring can look very different at home versus in a showroom.
Your subfloor should be clean, flat (within 3/16" over 10 feet), dry, and structurally sound. Different flooring types have different subfloor requirements — our team can advise based on the specific product you're considering.
- SPC/LVP Vinyl – Best choice for below-grade; 100% waterproof core ✓
- Engineered Hardwood – Can work in basements with proper moisture management ✓
- Solid Hardwood / Laminate – Not recommended for below-grade areas ✗
SPC/LVP vinyl is our top recommendation — it's waterproof, scratch-resistant, and extremely durable. High AC-rated laminate (AC5/AC6) is also a strong choice for active households.

Yes, in-store pickup is available at 3781 Victoria Park Avenue, Toronto. We recommend calling ahead when picking up large orders so we can have everything ready for you.
Flooring comes in boxes that typically cover between 13 to 20 square feet depending on the product. Boxes can be heavy (30–60 lbs), so please plan accordingly for transport and handling.
Installation
Please contact us to ask about installation referrals or services available through our network. We're happy to point you in the right direction.
Most of our laminate and SPC products use a click-lock floating installation (such as VALINGE 5G), meaning they float above the subfloor without glue or nails. This makes them DIY-friendly and allows for seasonal expansion and contraction.
Many SPC and laminate products come with underlayment pre-attached. If not, a separate underlayment is recommended for sound absorption and to smooth out minor subfloor imperfections. Our team can advise which underlayment is right for your product.
- Laminate & Engineered Hardwood: 48–72 hours to acclimate to your home's temperature and humidity
- SPC Vinyl: Little to no acclimation required due to its rigid core
- Solid Hardwood: Up to 5–7 days, especially in Canadian climates with significant humidity variation
Care & Maintenance
Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit and debris. Use a damp (not wet) mop with a pH-neutral hardwood cleaner. Avoid excessive water, steam mops, and harsh chemicals — these can damage the finish and cause warping over time.
Sweep or vacuum regularly. Use a slightly damp mop and a laminate-safe cleaner. Never wet-mop laminate — excessive moisture can cause swelling and damage to the HDF core.
SPC is the easiest to maintain — sweep or vacuum regularly and mop with a damp mop as needed. It's fully waterproof so spills are no problem. Avoid abrasive scrubbers that could scratch the wear layer.
Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifetime — one of its greatest long-term value advantages.
Engineered hardwood can typically be lightly refinished 1–2 times depending on the veneer thickness.
