Oak is a classic flooring species known for its pronounced grain and durability. The 6-inch width gives a broad, open look to living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, and random-length planks create a natural, varied layout.
Engineered hardwood has a real-wood surface over a layered core, which is designed to respond less to seasonal humidity changes than solid wood. Follow the manufacturer's installation and acclimation guidance, protect the floor from standing water, use felt pads under furniture, and clean with products made for hardwood floors.
