Is a 10mm, 20mil SPC plank worth $4.99 per sq ft when Riche sells 8mm and 6mm planks for less? This riche 10mm spc vinyl review answers with numbers from our live catalogue. Every 10mm colour sits at the same $59.00 box price, but each box covers only 11.82 sq ft, so the bill grows faster than the sticker suggests. It is a spec-and-price review rather than a long-term wear test, and it stays on our 10mm SPC vinyl plank collection. For the general question of how thickness classes differ, our 6mm vs 8mm vs 10mm guide covers it.
Quick verdict: who gets value from $4.99 per sq ft
The premium buys a thicker plank and a different set of colours. It does not buy a tougher wear layer, because our Riche 8mm Heavy-Duty line carries the same 20mil wear layer for $3.56 per sq ft, which is $1.43 less. The 6mm line comes in at $2.66 per sq ft with a 12mil wear layer.
- Pay for 10mm if a colour you love exists only in this range, or you specifically want the thicker plank and have budgeted for the higher box count.
- Pick the 8mm 20mil line if you want the same wear layer and the same plank width for a lower price.
- Pick 6mm if the budget is the main limit and the room is a low-traffic residential space.
What the 25 ten-millimetre products actually are
The 10mm collection currently lists 25 products, and 24 of them are in stock. All 25 share one price: $59.00 per box at 11.82 sq ft, which works out to $4.99 per sq ft (59.00 divided by 11.82 is 4.9915, rounded to the cent). All 25 are listed as click-lock, waterproof "Yes" and 20mil, and the durability field on each reads "20mil - Commercial / Heavy Duty". Treat that as a product label rather than a certification.
| Group | Products | In stock | Plank style | Example colours and price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra-Thick, wide | 10 | 10 | 7.5 inches wide | Greige Mist, Butterscotch Pine: $59.00 per 11.82 sq ft box |
| Ultra-Thick, narrow | 5 | 5 | Narrow plank | Cognac Reserve, Rustic Taupe: $59.00 per 11.82 sq ft box |
| With EVA pad | 10 | 9 | Narrower plank | Greige Oak, Stone Grey Oak: $59.00 per 11.82 sq ft box |
Prices checked October 4, 2026. Box prices and coverage come from our current catalogue.
The wide Ultra-Thick planks are the headline of the range, and the product data lists them at 7.5 inches wide. Greige Mist is a soft, pale grey-beige oak look, and Butterscotch Pine is a warmer, light oak tone.
Beyond the wide planks, the narrow Ultra-Thick colours are a separate set of five, and the ten EVA-pad products are a third set. Colour names differ between these groups, so judge each colour on its own sample rather than assuming a shade carries across thicknesses.
Why a $59.00 box buys less floor at 10mm
Across Riche's SPC ladder the box price barely moves. What changes is how much floor is inside it. Here are the current lines side by side, with price per sq ft calculated as box price divided by sq ft per box.
| Build | Wear layer | Box price | Sq ft per box | Price per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6mm | 12mil | $62.93 | 23.64 sq ft | $2.66 |
| 8mm (most colours) | 12mil | $59.00 | 15.77 sq ft | $3.74 |
| 8mm Heavy-Duty | 20mil | $59.00 | 16.55 sq ft | $3.56 |
| 9mm | 20mil | $62.00 | 14.18 sq ft | $4.37 |
| 10mm | 20mil | $59.00 | 11.82 sq ft | $4.99 |
Two patterns stand out. A 6mm box holds exactly twice the floor of a 10mm box (23.64 sq ft against 11.82 sq ft), so you carry, stack and open far fewer cartons. Against the Heavy-Duty 8mm box, a 10mm box covers 4.73 sq ft less for the same $59.00.
The second pattern is less obvious: the 8mm 20mil colours are $0.18 per sq ft cheaper than most 8mm 12mil colours, even with the thicker wear layer. Wear layer is not what drives the price in this catalogue. Box coverage and thickness do. The 9mm 20mil line sits between them, and the 10mm is $0.62 per sq ft above it. You can browse the cheaper step in our 8mm SPC vinyl plank collection.
Worked example: 500 sq ft at 6mm, 8mm and 10mm
Here is the box maths for a 500 sq ft floor, using the same steps for every line. These figures cover material only.
- Add a 5% waste allowance: 500 sq ft x 1.05 = 525 sq ft.
- Divide by the coverage of one box and round up to whole boxes.
- Multiply the boxes by the box price.
- Add 13% HST.
| Build | Boxes | Material before HST | Per sq ft of room | HST at 13% | Total with HST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6mm, 12mil | 23 | $1,447.39 | $2.89 | $188.16 | $1,635.55 |
| 8mm Heavy-Duty, 20mil | 32 | $1,888.00 | $3.78 | $245.44 | $2,133.44 |
| 10mm, 20mil | 45 | $2,655.00 | $5.31 | $345.15 | $3,000.15 |
The 10mm job needs 45 boxes (525 divided by 11.82 is 44.4, so it rounds up), against 32 for the Heavy-Duty 8mm and 23 for 6mm. Material before HST is $767.00 higher than the 8mm 20mil job, or $866.71 higher with HST. Against 6mm the gap is $1,207.61 before HST, or $1,364.60 with it.
Whole boxes also leave a remainder. The 45 boxes of 10mm hold 531.9 sq ft, so 31.9 sq ft is left over once the 500 sq ft room is covered. Keeping a few spare planks for a future repair is a sensible use of that surplus, and it is one reason not to trim the waste allowance to save a box.
Notice the middle column. The $4.99 on the label becomes $5.31 for every sq ft of room you actually floor, because the waste allowance and whole-box rounding are paid for too. The same effect pushes the 8mm line from $3.56 to $3.78.
Smaller rooms show the same shape. A 150 sq ft room becomes 157.5 sq ft with waste, which is 14 boxes of 10mm ($826.00), 10 boxes of 8mm Heavy-Duty ($590.00) or 7 boxes of 6mm ($440.51). The 10mm premium over the 8mm 20mil is $236.00 before HST. Installation, removal, trim and delivery are not in any of these numbers; they are priced after we know your floor. What the extra 2mm does and does not show up as in the listing
Set the 10mm Ultra-Thick wide planks beside the 8mm Heavy-Duty planks and the product data is strikingly similar. Both are 20mil, both are click-lock, both are marked waterproof "Yes", and both list a plank width of 7.5 inches. The differences are the 2mm of thickness, the colour palette and the coverage per box.
Pad is the detail to check. Only the ten products with "EVA Pad" in the title state an attached pad. The Ultra-Thick and Heavy-Duty titles say nothing about one, so confirm with us before you assume you can skip underlay. Our underlayment guide explains when a separate layer is worth adding.
If a built-in pad is what you want at 10mm, the EVA group is where to look, for example Greige Oak at the same $59.00 box price. What the listings do not give us is a sound rating or a subfloor tolerance for any of these planks, so we will not promise either. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions for your subfloor and tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Before you order 10mm: a short checklist
A few minutes of checking prevents most ordering mistakes with this range.
- Measure the floor area and apply the 5% waste allowance, then round up to whole boxes at 11.82 sq ft each.
- Decide which group you are buying from: wide Ultra-Thick, narrow Ultra-Thick or EVA pad. The group sets plank style and pad status.
- Read the product title for a pad. If none is mentioned, ask if a separate underlay is needed.
- Compare your colour with the 8mm Heavy-Duty colours at $3.56 per sq ft to see whether a close match exists for less.
- Note what is on the floor now, and whether the room is a basement, condo or house, so the quote covers removal and prep accurately.
Decision rules: 10mm, 8mm 20mil or 6mm?
Choose 10mm when
The colour decides it. If Greige Mist, Butterscotch Pine or one of the narrow colours is the floor you want and it is not offered at 8mm, the premium is the price of that look. Budget for the higher box count and the extra cartons to move. Basement projects have their own moisture and subfloor questions, covered in our basement LVP guide.
Choose the 8mm 20mil line when
You want a heavy-duty wear layer without the 10mm bill. The ten Heavy-Duty 8mm colours are all in stock at $3.56 per sq ft, and Vanilla Maple shows the style: a light, natural oak look on a plank 7.5 inches wide.
Choose 6mm when
Cost is the constraint and the room is a low-traffic residential space, since the 6mm line carries a 12mil wear layer labelled "Residential". At $2.66 per sq ft, the 500 sq ft example costs $1,207.61 less in material than 10mm before HST. Riche 10mm SPC FAQ
Is 10mm SPC worth $4.99 per sq ft?
Only when you want something specific from it. The gap to the 8mm 20mil line is $1.43 per sq ft, and both carry a 20mil wear layer. If a 10mm-only colour or the thicker plank matters to you, the premium is reasonable; if not, the 8mm line gets you similar listed specs for less.
Is it spelled Riche or Richie?
Both appear in our catalogue. Product titles and the vendor field read Riche, while some web addresses, including the Ultra-Thick and Heavy-Duty ones, use "richie". Both spellings point at the same Riche Flooring products, so browse by collection rather than by spelling.
Does 10mm Riche vinyl come with an attached pad?
Yes for the EVA group, whose titles state the pad. The 15 Ultra-Thick products do not mention one, so ask us before planning around it.
How many boxes of 10mm do I need for my room?
Take your floor area, multiply by 1.05, divide by 11.82 and round up. A 200 sq ft room becomes 210 sq ft with waste, which is 18 boxes and $1,062.00 before HST.
Is vinyl Richie flooring waterproof?
The product data marks all 25 ten-millimetre products as waterproof "Yes". That describes the plank itself. Moisture rising from a subfloor is a separate question, so mention it when you request a quote.
