Goodfellow's 12mm AC5 laminate starts at $3.00 per sq ft in our store, right alongside the Kronotex and Egger AC5 boards we stock. Is it good value? Yes, if you want the extra thickness and the 72-hour water-resistance rating. On price alone it's level with Kronotex, and all four Egger 11mm AC5 boards come in a little under it. Below, we compare box price, coverage, thickness, click system and origin against Kronotex 4798 and Egger EM7208. You can see every colour in our laminate flooring collection.
Quick answer: Goodfellow, Kronotex and Egger at a glance
- Goodfellow: seven 12mm AC5 laminates at $3.00 to $3.47 per sq ft. Each box covers 20.18 sq ft and costs $60.54 to $69.99.
- Kronotex 4798: a 10mm AC5 board at $2.99 per sq ft, one cent below the $3.00 Goodfellow colours.
- Egger EM7208: an 11mm AC5 board at $2.51 per sq ft, $0.49 below the $3.00 Goodfellow colours.
- What Goodfellow adds: it's the thickest of the three, and it lists a 72-hour water-resistance rating that the Kronotex and Egger listings don't carry.
- The catch: the boxes hold 20.18, 19.37 and 16.15 sq ft, so the lowest price per sq ft won't always give you the cheapest order.
Goodfellow laminate prices by colour: seven boxes, three price points
All seven Goodfellow boards we carry are 12mm, AC5 rated and click-lock, with 20.18 sq ft per box. The only thing that changes the price is the colour. Here they all are, with the price per sq ft worked out from the box price.
| Goodfellow board | Box price | Coverage per box | Per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poznan No.045 | $60.54 | 20.18 sq ft | $3.00 |
| Prag No.028 | $60.54 | 20.18 sq ft | $3.00 |
| Revival No.031 | $60.54 | 20.18 sq ft | $3.00 |
| Devine No.026 | $60.99 | 20.18 sq ft | $3.02 |
| Peking No.012 | $60.99 | 20.18 sq ft | $3.02 |
| Shanghai No.029 | $60.99 | 20.18 sq ft | $3.02 |
| Canyon No.019 | $69.99 | 20.18 sq ft | $3.47 |
Prices checked October 4, 2026. All seven colours are in stock.
Six of the seven are within two cents of each other. Poznan, Prag and Revival cost $60.54 a box. Devine, Peking and Shanghai cost $0.45 more, which works out to $0.02 per sq ft. Canyon is the odd one out at $9.45 more per box, or $0.47 per sq ft. So unless you've fallen for Canyon, pick from the other six on looks.
Prag (above) is a mid grey with visible knots. Devine (below) is a lighter, softer grey with a straighter grain, and it costs $0.02 more per sq ft.
What the Goodfellow listings say about water, click system and origin
Goodfellow differs from the other two brands in three ways.
The 72-hour water-resistance line
Goodfellow boards carry a 72-hour water-resistance rating. Kronotex 4798 and Egger EM7208 don't list a water rating at all. The Goodfellow pages don't say which test is behind the rating, though, so read it as a rating printed for that board, not a promise that the floor is waterproof. If the room might see standing water, like a laundry room, talk to us before you order.
Unifit versus Valinge click
Goodfellow uses the Unifit click system. Kronotex and Egger use Valinge. All three are floating click-lock floors that go down without glue or nails, and all three need a 6 to 8mm gap around the edge of the room. The system names are useful when you compare quotes. If you want to know how the two systems differ, see our six-brand roundup.
Origin printed as Europe
Goodfellow is labelled "Made in Europe" without a country. Kronotex and Egger are labelled "Made in Germany". Don't assume Goodfellow comes from Germany just because the other two do. If the country matters to you, mention it when you ask for a quote and we'll find out what we can.
Goodfellow, Kronotex and Egger side by side
Here's one board from each brand: Goodfellow Prag at $3.00 per sq ft, Kronotex 4798 and the 11mm Egger EM7208. We've also added Egger EM7206 for contrast. It's a thinner board with a lower rating, so a lower price there isn't a straight saving.
| Board | Thickness and rating | Click system on listing | Box price / coverage | Per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goodfellow Prag No.028 | 12mm, AC5 | Unifit | $60.54 / 20.18 sq ft | $3.00 |
| Kronotex 4798 | 10mm, AC5 | Valinge | $57.92 / 19.37 sq ft | $2.99 |
| Egger EM7208 | 11mm, AC5 | Valinge | $40.48 / 16.15 sq ft | $2.51 |
| Egger EM7206 | 8mm, AC3 | Valinge | $40.48 / 21.42 sq ft | $1.89 |
Goodfellow against Kronotex 4798
Only a cent separates them per sq ft, so what matters is what you get for the money. Goodfellow is 12mm to Kronotex's 10mm and has the water-resistance rating. Kronotex's box is cheaper, $57.92 against $60.54, but it holds less. To find out which costs less for your room, you have to do the box maths in the next section.
Goodfellow against Egger
Egger EM7208 saves you the most: it's $0.49 per sq ft less than the $3.00 Goodfellow colours, and it's still an 11mm AC5 board. Not every Egger board is that cheap, though. We list four Egger 11mm AC5 boards, three of them in stock today, priced from $2.51 to $2.99 per sq ft. The other three are all $2.99, just a cent under Goodfellow, so EM7208 at $40.48 a box is the bargain of the group. For more on the two brands, see our Egger, Kronotex and Swiss Krono comparison.
Same price per sq ft, different bill: the whole-box maths
You buy laminate in whole boxes, and each brand's box is a different size. To work out your order, add 5% to your floor area for cuts and waste (we include this in every quote), divide by the sq ft in one box, round up, then multiply by the box price. For a 400 sq ft room in Prag, that's 420 sq ft ÷ 20.18 = 20.81, so 21 boxes × $60.54 = $1,271.34.
Here's the same sum for three room sizes. These are material costs only and don't include underlay, installation, delivery or HST.
| Floor area | Goodfellow Prag | Kronotex 4798 | Egger EM7208 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 250 sq ft (262.50 sq ft with waste) | 14 boxes, $847.56 | 14 boxes, $810.88 | 17 boxes, $688.16 |
| 400 sq ft (420.00 sq ft with waste) | 21 boxes, $1,271.34 | 22 boxes, $1,274.24 | 27 boxes, $1,092.96 |
| 650 sq ft (682.50 sq ft with waste) | 34 boxes, $2,058.36 | 36 boxes, $2,085.12 | 43 boxes, $1,740.64 |
The one-cent gap between Goodfellow and Kronotex gets lost in the rounding. At 250 sq ft, both need 14 boxes, so Kronotex's cheaper box makes it $36.68 cheaper. At 400 sq ft it flips and Goodfellow is $2.90 cheaper, and at 650 sq ft Goodfellow is $26.76 cheaper. Egger EM7208 is the cheapest at every size, but you'll need more boxes: 43 for 650 sq ft compared with 34 of Goodfellow. Measure your rooms and run all three numbers before you choose.
Is 12mm worth choosing over 10mm or 11mm?
Thickness is the clearest difference between the three. Goodfellow gives you 2mm more than Kronotex 4798 for an extra cent per sq ft, and 1mm more than Egger EM7208 for an extra $0.49. The best way to tell if you'd notice the difference underfoot is to hold a plank in your hand.
All three are rated AC5, so thickness is what really sets them apart. Our guide to what AC ratings mean explains the rating, and our guide to AC5 laminate brands in Toronto shows how Goodfellow compares with the other brands we carry.
Goodfellow laminate review: which board suits which buyer
- Choose Goodfellow if you want 12mm and the water-resistance rating, and the 20.18 sq ft box works out well for your room. Pick from the six $3.00 and $3.02 colours on looks.
- Choose Kronotex 4798 if you love the look and the box maths favours it, as it did at 250 sq ft. You give up 2mm of thickness for a cheaper box.
- Choose Egger EM7208 if budget comes first. It saves the most per sq ft and is still 11mm and AC5, but you'll need more boxes for the same room.
- Skip the thin Egger board unless a lower rating is fine for your room. EM7206 is an 8mm AC3 laminate, so $1.89 per sq ft buys you a lower grade of board.
What this review does not cover
We don't have wear tests or customer ratings for these boards, so we can't tell you how they'll hold up over years in a busy home. Warranty terms aren't covered here either, so get them in writing before you buy. Underlay, installation and delivery are quoted separately, which is why every price above is for materials only.
Goodfellow laminate FAQ
Is Goodfellow laminate good?
It's a 12mm AC5 click-lock laminate at $3.00 to $3.47 per sq ft, priced right alongside the German boards. We don't have wear data or reviews for it, so the best thing to do is look at a plank in your own room's light.
Goodfellow vs Kronotex laminate: which is better value?
It depends on your room. They're a cent apart per sq ft, so box size decides the final bill. Run your measurements through the box formula for both and compare the totals.
Egger vs Goodfellow laminate: how big is the price gap?
Egger EM7208 is $0.49 per sq ft cheaper than Prag. The other three 11mm Egger boards are $2.99, only a cent under Goodfellow. The 8mm AC3 Egger at $1.89 is a lower grade, so it isn't a fair comparison.
Where is Goodfellow laminate made?
It's labelled "Made in Europe" without a country. The Kronotex and Egger listings state Germany. If you need paperwork for your project, just ask us.
Does the 72-hour rating make Goodfellow laminate waterproof?
The listing doesn't claim that. It gives a water-resistance rating for the board and doesn't say how it was tested. If a room gets wet often, talk to us before you choose any laminate.
