If you want dark vinyl plank flooring in Toronto, we carry deep brown, espresso, charcoal and near-black SPC colours, along with a few walnut-look planks that turn out much lighter than their names suggest. This page sorts the dark and walnut-look colours we have in stock by how dark they actually look, then lines up box price, coverage and wear layer so you can build a shortlist before you visit. Every colour comes from our vinyl flooring collection. Matching a floor to cabinets or furniture is a separate question, and our guide to matching floors to oak cabinets covers it.

Which dark and walnut-look SPC colours are in stock right now?

Our SPC range currently lists 95 vinyl plank products, and 87 of them are in stock. Seven have "walnut" in the name, and five of those seven are in stock. The table below covers the in-stock colours that are dark, medium-dark or walnut-named, ordered from deep tones to light ones. The tone column describes what each product image shows.

Colour Tone in the product image Box price Coverage per box Price per sq ft Wear layer
Espresso Walnut Dark reddish-brown, bold walnut figure $59.00 11.82 sq ft $4.99 20mil
Dark Espresso Oak Dark brown, even fine grain $59.00 21.27 sq ft $2.77 12mil

Old Port Roast Mid tan-brown $59.00 15.77 sq ft $3.74 12mil
Plateau Walnut Medium reddish-brown $59.00 15.77 sq ft $3.74 12mil
Burrard Walnut Light golden honey $69.99 13.79 sq ft $5.08 12mil

Prices checked October 4, 2026. Box prices and coverage come from our current catalogue.

Price per square foot is the box price divided by the coverage in the box, which is the fair way to compare because box sizes run from 11.82 sq ft to 21.27 sq ft. Tone descriptions are our reading of each main product image. Several of those images are renders and screens shift colour, so confirm the shade in person before you order.

A walnut name is not a shade: what the colour names really tell you

A colour name is a label, not a measurement. Burrard Walnut shows as a light golden honey in its product image, and Plateau Walnut reads as a medium reddish-brown. Charcoal Storm Oak looks like a mid grey rather than charcoal, and Old Port Roast is a tan-brown.

If you want a genuinely dark floor, start with the first eight rows of the table. Cocoa Brown Oak, Dark Roast Walnut and Smoky Timber sit at the medium-dark end of that group, and the other five are the deep browns and charcoals. Weighing pale finishes against deeper ones across wood looks in general is a wider decision, and our white-washed vs natural oak comparison works through it.

Dark brown and espresso: the walnut-look planks

The brown group splits by box size and wear layer more than by colour, so the details below are what separates one brown from the next.

Dark Roast Walnut: a warm medium brown and a 20mil listing

Dark Roast Walnut is the lightest of the browns in this section. Its main product image shows a medium warm amber-brown, while the living-room render below shows the same colour reading deeper, so look at a sample before you decide. The listing shows an 8mm plank, click-lock installation, a 20mil wear layer and a 7.09" plank width, and its durability field reads "20mil - Commercial / Heavy Duty". A box is $59.00 for 16.55 sq ft, which works out to $3.56 per sq ft.

Charcoal Noir is also an 8mm plank at $59.00 a box. Dark Roast Walnut costs $0.18 less per sq ft because each box covers more floor, and its wear layer is listed at 20mil instead of 12mil.

Espresso Walnut: the 10mm option with a bold walnut figure

Espresso Walnut is a dark reddish-brown with strong, swirling figure across the planks. The plank is 10mm thick with a 20mil wear layer, and its title lists an EVA pad. At $59.00 for 11.82 sq ft it comes to $4.99 per sq ft, which is $1.43 more per sq ft than Dark Roast Walnut. The smaller box also means more boxes for the same room, as the box table further down shows.

Dark Espresso Oak and Smoked Walnut: the lower-cost deep browns

Dark Espresso Oak is an even, fine-grained dark brown, while Smoked Walnut is a very dark brown with open grain. Both are $59.00 for 21.27 sq ft, or $2.77 per sq ft. Each carries a 12mil wear layer, and each title lists an IXPE pad. The box price matches the other colours above, so the larger box is what pulls the square-foot price down.

Charcoal and near-black SPC colours

Grey-leaning dark floors give a cooler look than the browns. Two colours here are properly dark, and a third sits a step lighter.

Midnight Shadow Oak: near-black with a fine grain

Midnight Shadow Oak looks like a near-black charcoal brown with a quiet, fine grain. A box is $59.00 for 21.27 sq ft, so it is $2.77 per sq ft. The wear layer is listed at 12mil and the title mentions an IXPE pad. Its box price and coverage match Dark Espresso Oak and Smoked Walnut, which leaves the choice to colour alone.

Charcoal Noir: charcoal grey with a textured grain

Charcoal Noir is a dark charcoal grey with a rough, textured grain and visible plank joints. It is an 8mm plank with a 12mil wear layer and an EVA pad in the title. At $59.00 for 15.77 sq ft it is $3.74 per sq ft, which is $0.97 more per sq ft than Midnight Shadow Oak.

Smoky Timber: a lighter grey-brown

Smoky Timber reads as a medium-dark grey-brown, so it suits you if charcoal feels too heavy. Its listing gives 10mm thickness and a 20mil wear layer, and a box is $59.00 for 11.82 sq ft, or $4.99 per sq ft. That box size matches Espresso Walnut, so the same box-count caution applies.

Reading the specs on a dark plank

Each listing carries a wear layer figure, a durability line, an installation method and a waterproof field. Of the eleven colours in the table, three are listed at 20mil and the other eight at 12mil, which the listing labels residential. All eleven are listed as click-lock with Waterproof: Yes. Those fields are the listing's own wording for each product, so open the product page for the full spec before you buy.

Several titles state an attached pad: EVA on Espresso Walnut, Charcoal Noir and Cocoa Brown Oak, and IXPE on Midnight Shadow Oak, Dark Espresso Oak and Smoked Walnut. The Dark Roast Walnut product page describes a 2mm EVA pad pre-attached to each plank, so that colour also arrives with its pad.

For a plain-language look at thickness, wear layer and underlayment together, see our guide to SPC plank specifications. If vinyl plank itself is new to you, our explainer on what vinyl plank is covers the basics.

How many boxes does a 150 sq ft room need in a dark colour?

Box size changes the shopping list more than buyers tend to expect. Take a 150 sq ft room, such as a large bedroom. Add 5% for cuts and waste, divide by the coverage in one box, round up to whole boxes, and multiply by the box price. The room first becomes 150 x 1.05 = 157.5 sq ft to cover.

Colour Coverage per box Boxes needed Floor covered Material before HST
Midnight Shadow Oak 21.27 sq ft 8 170.16 sq ft $472.00
Dark Roast Walnut 16.55 sq ft 10 165.50 sq ft $590.00
Charcoal Noir 15.77 sq ft 10 157.70 sq ft $590.00
Cocoa Brown Oak 13.79 sq ft 12 165.48 sq ft $744.00
Espresso Walnut 11.82 sq ft 14 165.48 sq ft $826.00

The gap between Midnight Shadow Oak at $472.00 and Espresso Walnut at $826.00 is $354.00 for the same room. Charcoal Noir only just clears the requirement, because ten boxes cover 157.70 sq ft against the 157.5 sq ft needed, so one miscut or a slightly larger room would add a box. Installation, delivery and removal of whatever is on the floor now are quoted separately once we have your measurements.

Choosing how dark to go in a smaller or dimmer room

Start from the colour you are drawn to, then use this shortlist to match it to a listing when you narrow down dark vinyl plank flooring in our range:

  • Dark brown at the lower box cost: Dark Espresso Oak or Smoked Walnut, both $2.77 per sq ft.
  • Brown with a 20mil listing: Dark Roast Walnut, a warm medium brown, at $3.56 per sq ft, or the darker Espresso Walnut at $4.99 per sq ft.
  • Near-black: Midnight Shadow Oak at $2.77 per sq ft.
  • Charcoal grey: Charcoal Noir at $3.74 per sq ft, or Smoky Timber at $4.99 per sq ft for a lighter grey-brown.
  • Medium-dark brown: Cocoa Brown Oak at $4.50 per sq ft.

Depth of colour matters more than the footprint alone. A near-black plank can look striking in a room with large windows, but in a small room with one window, the medium-dark colours keep more life in the floor. For condo bedrooms and living areas, our look at light versus dark floors in small condos goes through how lighting changes the result, and your building's own rules should be checked before you order.

Plan for upkeep, too. A deep, even colour can make dust, pet hair and light marks stand out more than a mid-tone plank does. If that would bother you, lean towards colours with visible grain and variation, such as Espresso Walnut or Smoked Walnut, over the plainer near-black.

Frequently asked questions about dark and walnut-look vinyl plank

Does walnut vinyl plank flooring mean a dark floor?

Not necessarily. Five of our seven walnut-named SPC products are in stock, and their images range from very dark brown to golden honey. Judge by the product image and a look in person rather than by the name.

What is the difference between walnut LVP and espresso vinyl flooring?

Walnut points to a wood look in the grain, while espresso points to a very deep brown. Espresso Walnut combines both in one plank, and Dark Espresso Oak puts the deep colour on a finer oak grain.

What does dark vinyl plank cost per square foot?

The eight darker colours at the top of the table run from $2.77 to $4.99 per sq ft, on box prices of $59.00 to $62.00. The spread comes mostly from box size and wear layer, so compare by the square foot and not by the box.

Which dark colours have a 20mil wear layer?

Only three: Smoky Timber, Espresso Walnut and Dark Roast Walnut are listed at 20mil. The rest of the dark group is listed at 12mil, so check the figure on the product page when wear layer matters to you.

Are dark vinyl planks waterproof?

Each product in the table has Waterproof: Yes in its listing. That is the listing's wording for each colour, so confirm the details on the product page and ask us whether a specific colour suits the room you have in mind.

How do I work out how many boxes of dark plank to order?

Increase your floor area by 5%, divide by the square feet in one box, and round up to a whole box. For a 150 sq ft room that means 8 boxes of a 21.27 sq ft colour, or 14 boxes of an 11.82 sq ft colour.
