If you have spotted Sunshiny laminate on our shelves and wondered whether a 15mm plank at a low price is a bargain or a warning sign, this Sunshiny laminate flooring review gives you the numbers to decide. We sell seven Sunshiny laminates in our laminate flooring collection, priced from $1.33 to $1.99 per sq ft, and all seven are in stock in today's catalogue. This is a read of the specs, box sizes and prices on our listings, not a lab test or a durability promise, so it also shows you which questions to ask before you buy. The short version: a thicker number is not automatically a better floor, and with these planks price does not follow thickness: three of the four 15mm AC3 listings cost less per square foot than the 12mm ones, while the fourth costs more.
Quick answer: is Sunshiny 15mm laminate worth considering?
- Price: $1.33 to $1.99 per sq ft across the seven Sunshiny listings, with box prices from $18.25 to $32.99 before HST.
- What is listed: six of the seven product names show an AC3 rating, and all seven are click-lock floors in our catalogue data. The seventh, SL7386, shows no AC rating in its name.
- 15mm against 12mm: the four 15mm AC3 listings run $1.33 to $1.78 per sq ft, while the two 12mm listings are $1.59. Price does not follow the thickness number here.
- The catch: boxes hold between 13.75 and 19.75 sq ft, so compare the per-square-foot price and ignore the box price.
- Who it suits: buyers who put price first and are comfortable with AC3 as the rating they are buying. If you want a higher rating at 12mm, a Krono listing at $2.99 per sq ft is covered further down.
The seven Sunshiny laminates side by side
Every figure in the table comes from the live product records. We divide each box price by the coverage in the box to get a per-square-foot price, rounded to the cent, because a 13.75 sq ft box and a 19.75 sq ft box cannot be compared at face value.
| Model | Name shows | Box price | Sq ft per box | Per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunshiny SL009 | 15mm, AC3 | $18.25 | 13.75 | $1.33 |
| Sunshiny SL588 | 15mm, AC3 | $18.25 | 13.75 | $1.33 |
| Sunshiny SL712 | 15mm, AC3 | $18.25 | 13.75 | $1.33 |
| Sunshiny SL112 | 15mm, AC3 | $24.49 | 13.75 | $1.78 |
| Sunshiny SL1052 | 12mm, AC3 | $31.40 | 19.75 | $1.59 |
| Sunshiny SL1123 | 12mm, AC3 | $31.40 | 19.75 | $1.59 |
| Sunshiny SL7386 | No AC rating shown | $32.99 | 16.58 | $1.99 |
Prices checked October 4, 2026. Box prices and coverage come from our current catalogue.
Three listings (SL009, SL588 and SL712) share the same $18.25 box and 13.75 sq ft coverage, so the specs on the page do not separate them and the choice between them comes down to which plank you like on the floor. SL112 has the same listed thickness, rating and box size as those three, yet it costs $0.45 more per sq ft ($1.78 against $1.33). Nothing in the listing explains that gap, which is a good reason to compare the planks side by side before paying the premium.
Is thicker laminate better? What the 15mm number does and does not tell you
A thickness figure is one number for the whole plank. The North American Laminate Flooring Association describes laminate as built from a protective wear layer, a decorative layer, a wood-based core and a backing layer, and says the wood-based core provides "strength, stability" in its overview of laminate construction. The same page calls the wear layer a "clear, durable layer". A bigger thickness figure on a listing does not say how that thickness is divided between those layers.
NALFA also lists underlayment as its own layer, one that "smooths out sub-floor irregularities, reduces walking noise, and adds a touch of comfort underfoot." That is why it is fair to ask whether a thickness figure covers the board alone or includes an attached pad. Before you order any laminate, put these three questions to the seller:
- What does the thickness figure include? The board alone, or the board plus a pad.
- Which AC rating is shown for this exact plank? On our Sunshiny listings the rating sits in the product name, and it is AC3 on six of the seven.
- How high will the finished floor sit? A thicker plank raises the surface, so check door clearances and where the new floor meets the old one.
The table already shows why the thickness number should not be read as a quality ranking. The 15mm AC3 Sunshiny listings at $1.33 per sq ft cost $0.26 less than the 12mm listings at $1.59. If thickness were what you were paying for, those prices would run the other way, so read the AC rating, the box size and the per-square-foot price together. If you are weighing 12mm against a thinner plank, our thickness comparison for thinner laminate covers that end of the range.
Three Sunshiny listings up close
Sunshiny SL7386: the highest-priced Sunshiny at $1.99 per sq ft
SL7386 comes in a $32.99 box covering 16.58 sq ft, which works out to $1.99 per sq ft, and it is a click-lock floor like the rest of the line. It is also the one Sunshiny listing whose name does not show an AC rating, and its thickness needs confirming with us before you order, so treat it as the listing to ask about first. It costs $0.30 more per sq ft than Krono K6207 at $1.69, a 12mm AC3 listing, so confirm what you are getting for the difference.
Sunshiny SL1052: 12mm and AC3 with the largest box
SL1052 is listed as 12mm with an AC3 rating and sells in a $31.40 box holding 19.75 sq ft, the largest box in the Sunshiny line. That is $1.59 per sq ft. SL1123 has the same box price and coverage. Because the box is bigger, you buy fewer of them for the same room, which matters when you reach the 400 sq ft example below.
Sunshiny SL112: the 15mm listing at $1.78
SL112 is a 15mm AC3 plank in a $24.49 box of 13.75 sq ft. Per square foot it is the priciest of the four 15mm AC3 listings and still $0.21 under SL7386. Choose it over the $1.33 listings only if its colour is the one you want in the room, since the listed specs do not separate them.
Sunshiny against Krono: what the extra money buys on paper
Krono K6207 is the closest like-for-like comparison with SL1052. It is a 12mm AC3 listing at $23.00 for a 13.61 sq ft box, or $1.69 per sq ft, so it sits $0.10 per sq ft above the Sunshiny 12mm listings. Our four Krono-branded AC3 laminates run from $1.69 to $2.39 per sq ft. The K6207 name includes Germany, while the Sunshiny product names do not state a country of origin, so this page makes no claim about where the Sunshiny planks are made. For the German-made side of the range, see our guide to budget German-made laminate.
If the rating matters more to you than the thickness, the step up is Krono K8254. It is a 12mm listing with an AC5 rating at $51.94 for a 17.37 sq ft box, which is $2.99 per sq ft and $1.66 more than the $1.33 Sunshiny listings. Our guide to AC5 laminate brands in Toronto compares that tier in more depth.
What 400 sq ft costs in material
Here is the arithmetic we use for every laminate quote, applied to a 400 sq ft room. First add the 5% waste allowance: 400 sq ft × 1.05 = 420 sq ft. Then divide 420 by the sq ft in one box and round up to whole boxes. Multiply the boxes by the box price for the material line, then add 13% HST.
| Listing | Per sq ft | Boxes | Material before HST | With 13% HST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunshiny SL588 (15mm, AC3) | $1.33 | 31 | $565.75 | $639.30 |
| Sunshiny SL112 (15mm, AC3) | $1.78 | 31 | $759.19 | $857.88 |
| Sunshiny SL1052 (12mm, AC3) | $1.59 | 22 | $690.80 | $780.60 |
| Sunshiny SL7386 | $1.99 | 26 | $857.74 | $969.25 |
| Krono K6207 (12mm, AC3) | $1.69 | 31 | $713.00 | $805.69 |
| Krono K8254 (12mm, AC5) | $2.99 | 25 | $1,298.50 | $1,467.31 |
Two things stand out. The 12mm SL1052 needs only 22 boxes against 31 for the 15mm AC3 listings, because each box covers more floor, yet its material line is still $125.05 higher than the $1.33 15mm listing. And K6207 adds $22.20 to the SL1052 material line, which is what the $0.10 per sq ft gap amounts to in a room this size.
Whole boxes also mean you pay for what is left over. With 31 boxes, the 13.75 sq ft listings cover 426.25 sq ft, which is 6.25 sq ft more than the 420 sq ft you need. With 22 boxes, SL1052 covers 434.50 sq ft, or 14.50 sq ft more. Check that surplus as well as the price per square foot.
These totals leave out underlay, installation and delivery, which depend on your floor and building. Our flooring budget estimator can add those lines for your own room sizes.
Which one to choose
- Price comes first: the $1.33 listings (SL009, SL588 and SL712) are the entry point, at $565.75 of material for the 400 sq ft room before HST.
- You want 12mm with AC3 at a modest price: SL1052 or SL1123 at $1.59 per sq ft, with the larger box.
- You prefer a Krono name on a 12mm AC3 plank: K6207 at $1.69 per sq ft is the comparison to make.
- You want a higher rating: K8254 at $2.99 per sq ft carries AC5 in its name.
- You are drawn to SL7386: ask us for its thickness and rating first, since the name does not show a rating.

Sunshiny and 15mm laminate FAQ
Is Sunshiny laminate flooring any good?
A product listing can tell you price, box size, thickness and AC rating, and on those terms six of our seven Sunshiny laminates are AC3 floors priced between $1.33 and $1.78 per sq ft. Whether that suits you depends on the room. For a hallway or entry that takes heavy foot traffic, compare it with an AC5 listing such as Krono K8254 (covered above) before you decide.
Is 15mm laminate better than 12mm?
Not on thickness alone. Three of the four 15mm AC3 Sunshiny planks cost less per sq ft than the 12mm ones and the fourth costs more, all of them carry AC3 in their names, and the 12mm boxes cover more floor. Read the rating and ask what the thickness figure includes before treating the bigger number as an upgrade.
How many boxes of Sunshiny laminate do I need?
Add 5% for waste, divide by the box coverage and round up. For 200 sq ft of SL588, that is 200 × 1.05 = 210 sq ft, and 210 ÷ 13.75 = 15.27, so you buy 16 boxes at $18.25 each, or $292.00 before HST.
How do Sunshiny and Krono laminate differ on your shelves?
On paper, the 12mm AC3 Sunshiny listings are $0.10 per sq ft below Krono K6207, and the Krono range goes on to AC5 at K8254. The K6207 and K8254 names include a country, while Sunshiny names do not, so ask us about anything the listing does not show.
