Weathered floors are their own corner of the vinyl plank market: pale greys, soft taupes and barnwood browns that look like timber which has spent a few seasons near salt air. Our catalogue lists 13 vinyl plank colours in that family, all 13 in stock, from $2.66 per sq ft to $5.08 per sq ft. This guide to driftwood vinyl plank flooring names every one of them, groups them by wear layer, prices each colour per box and per square foot, and runs the box maths on three of the most different planks.
Not every grey-leaning plank belongs here. The 13 below are the driftwood, drift, washed, weathered, coast, coastal, shore, barnwood, smoky and rustic names in our vinyl plank collection; greys and greiges, whites, and the warm honey family each have their own guide.
Quick answer: which driftwood and weathered colours we stock
The 13 names fall into four loose groups:
- Driftwood and drift names: Washed Driftwood, Driftwood Mist, Driftwood Grey Oak, Linen Drift Oak
- Coastal and shore names: Coastal Grey, Coastal Greige, West Coast Sand, Sahara Shore
- Weathered names: Weathered Grey Oak, Weathered Shore Oak
- Barnwood, smoky and rustic names: Reclaimed Barnwood, Smoky Timber, Rustic Taupe
Material runs from $2.66 per sq ft for Weathered Shore Oak, a plank in a 23.64 sq ft box, to $5.08 per sq ft for West Coast Sand and Coastal Greige, both sold in 13.79 sq ft boxes. Box prices sit between $59.00 and $69.99. Wear layer splits the group almost evenly: 8 of the 13 colours carry a 12mil layer and 5 carry a 20mil layer.
Driftwood, coastal and barnwood colours compared by wear layer and price
Every driftwood vinyl plank flooring colour below is a click-lock SPC plank sold by the box, so the per-square-foot figure is just the box price divided by the coverage inside the box. The wear layer is the clear vinyl bonded over the printed grain and the rigid core. Our product records label the 12mil planks residential and the 20mil planks commercial or heavy duty.
| Colour | Wear layer | Box price and coverage | Material per sq ft | Pad named in the product title |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Driftwood Mist | 20mil | $59.00 per 16.55 sq ft box | $3.56 | None named |
| Sahara Shore | 20mil | $59.00 per 16.55 sq ft box | $3.56 | None named |
| Washed Driftwood | 20mil | $59.00 per 11.82 sq ft box | $4.99 | EVA pad |
| Smoky Timber | 20mil | $59.00 per 11.82 sq ft box | $4.99 | EVA pad |
| Rustic Taupe | 20mil | $59.00 per 11.82 sq ft box | $4.99 | None named |
| Driftwood Grey Oak | 12mil | $59.00 per 21.27 sq ft box | $2.77 | IXPE pad |
| Linen Drift Oak | 12mil | $59.00 per 21.27 sq ft box | $2.77 | IXPE pad |
| Weathered Grey Oak | 12mil | $59.00 per 15.77 sq ft box | $3.74 | EVA pad |
| Weathered Shore Oak | 12mil | $62.93 per 23.64 sq ft box | $2.66 | IXPE pad |
| Coastal Grey | 12mil | $62.00 per 13.79 sq ft box | $4.50 | EVA pad |
| Reclaimed Barnwood | 12mil | $62.00 per 13.79 sq ft box | $4.50 | EVA pad |
| West Coast Sand | 12mil | $69.99 per 13.79 sq ft box | $5.08 | None named |
| Coastal Greige | 12mil | $69.99 per 13.79 sq ft box | $5.08 | None named |
Prices checked October 6, 2026. Box prices and coverage come from our current product records.
Four things stand out in those numbers:
- Coverage moves the price more than the box figure does. Weathered Shore Oak carries the lowest material cost in the group at $2.66 per sq ft, and its box is also the largest at 23.64 sq ft. Driftwood Grey Oak and Linen Drift Oak land at $2.77 per sq ft on a 21.27 sq ft box.
- Most of the group sits between $2.66 and $4.99 per sq ft. West Coast Sand and Coastal Greige are the only two colours at $5.08 per sq ft.
- Wear layer does not set the price on its own. Driftwood Mist is a 20mil heavy-duty plank at $3.56 per sq ft, less than the 12mil Coastal Grey at $4.50 per sq ft, because the Driftwood Mist box covers 16.55 sq ft against 13.79 sq ft.
- The pad bonded to the back varies. Five colours name an EVA pad and three name an IXPE pad, which matters later when you decide whether a separate underlay roll belongs in the budget.
Three paler names sit in the same price band without carrying a driftwood or weathered word: Desert Sand and Natural Blonde Oak are both 10mm 20mil colours priced at $59.00 per 11.82 sq ft box, which is the same $4.99 per sq ft as Washed Driftwood and Smoky Timber. Blonde Sand Oak uses the 6mm build with an IXPE pad listed, and at $62.93 per 23.64 sq ft box it lands at $2.66 per sq ft, matching Weathered Shore Oak.
How the two wear layers differ in practice
A 12mil layer and a 20mil layer can carry the same printed colour; what changes is how much clear vinyl sits over the pattern. Our records split them by use, with 12mil listed as residential and 20mil listed as commercial or heavy duty, so the 20mil colours are the ones to weigh for a busy kitchen, an entryway or a basement playroom. Both are click-lock planks and our product records list both as waterproof. If the layers inside a vinyl plank are new to you, our guide to vinyl plank flooring walks through them.
Which worn colour suits a farmhouse, cottage or coastal room
Sorting by look comes first here, because the worn, faded grain is the point of the group. Three clusters cover it.
- Farmhouse and country rooms: Reclaimed Barnwood and Smoky Timber are the two darkest colours here, with heavy brown-grey grain; Weathered Grey Oak and Rustic Taupe show the grain in lighter grey and taupe. For how these tones sit with beams, shiplap and plank ceilings, see our rustic farmhouse flooring ideas.
- Cottages and lake houses: Washed Driftwood, Driftwood Mist, Sahara Shore, West Coast Sand and Desert Sand read as sun-bleached sand and driftwood, which suits rooms that open onto a deck.
- Coastal and pale schemes: Coastal Grey, Coastal Greige, Weathered Shore Oak, Linen Drift Oak and Driftwood Grey Oak are the washed grey, greige and linen tones, and they hold up against white trim and cool wall colours.
Price the cluster before you fall for it, though. Driftwood Mist and Desert Sand are both 20mil planks in $59.00 boxes, yet Driftwood Mist works out to $3.56 per sq ft and Desert Sand to $4.99 per sq ft, a $1.43 gap that comes entirely from coverage per box.
Whatever cluster you pick, the plank you buy is click-lock SPC vinyl, so wear layer, thickness, pad and coverage per box decide the price. Our comparison of SPC vinyl plank brands covers those build differences, and the white-washed against natural oak comparison helps if you are torn between a washed finish and a clearer grain.
What 400 sq ft of these colours costs in boxes
Box count is where a colour choice turns into money. Our quote sheet adds 5% to the measured area for cuts and offcuts, divides by the coverage per box, then rounds up, because boxes are sold whole. Take a 400 sq ft open-plan main floor. With the waste allowance the area to cover becomes 420 sq ft.
The table below prices three of these colours that way, using material only. No installation, removal or delivery is included, and 13% HST sits on its own line.
| Colour | Coverage per box | Boxes for 420 sq ft | Material before tax | HST at 13% | Material with HST | Material with HST per sq ft of floor |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Driftwood Mist | 16.55 sq ft | 26 | $1,534.00 | $199.42 | $1,733.42 | $4.33 |
| Blonde Sand Oak | 23.64 sq ft | 18 | $1,132.74 | $147.26 | $1,280.00 | $3.20 |
| Desert Sand | 11.82 sq ft | 36 | $2,124.00 | $276.12 | $2,400.12 | $6.00 |
The largest box in the table needs 18 boxes for this floor, while the smallest needs 36. Desert Sand comes out highest on every line because each box covers only 11.82 sq ft. Blonde Sand Oak is not a weathered name, but it shares the 23.64 sq ft box of Weathered Shore Oak, so it shows the low end of the range on a real floor.
Thickness and the pad bonded to the plank
Thickness across these colours runs from 6mm to 10mm, with several build heights in between. Weathered Shore Oak and Blonde Sand Oak are the 6mm planks, and Driftwood Grey Oak and Linen Drift Oak are 6.5mm. At 8mm you have Driftwood Mist, Sahara Shore and Weathered Grey Oak. Coastal Grey, Reclaimed Barnwood, West Coast Sand and Coastal Greige are 9mm, while the 10mm group is Desert Sand, Washed Driftwood, Smoky Timber, Rustic Taupe and Natural Blonde Oak.
A thicker plank adds height at the locking edge, which is what you notice where the floor meets a doorway or a tile transition. Several colours also arrive with a pad already bonded to the back. An EVA pad is named for Washed Driftwood, Smoky Timber, Weathered Grey Oak, Coastal Grey, Reclaimed Barnwood and Natural Blonde Oak, and an IXPE pad for Driftwood Grey Oak, Linen Drift Oak, Weathered Shore Oak and Blonde Sand Oak. Where an attached pad is named, no separate underlay roll belongs in the budget; where it is not, we confirm the underlay line with your measured quote.
Driftwood in laminate and engineered oak
Driftwood is a colour name across materials, not only a vinyl plank look. In laminate, our Riche Toronto line includes Sandy Driftwood, a 12mm plank, at $69.99 per 15.4 sq ft box, which is $4.54 per sq ft. Engineered oak carries the name twice: the Driftwood character-grade plank is $97.00 per 19.42 sq ft box at $4.99 per sq ft, and the version with the thicker 4mm oak wear layer is $120.00 per 19.42 sq ft box at $6.18 per sq ft. All three are different builds from the SPC planks above, so compare pad, thickness and coverage before you settle on a colour name.
Driftwood and weathered vinyl plank FAQ
Which driftwood or rustic weathered vinyl plank colours do you have?
Thirteen, all in stock, split across four naming families: driftwood, coastal and shore, weathered, and barnwood or rustic. Every one of them is listed with its box price and coverage in the comparison table above. Material per sq ft runs from $2.66 to $5.08.
What is the difference between Driftwood Mist and Washed Driftwood?
They share a $59.00 box price and a 20mil wear layer, so the difference is all in the build. Driftwood Mist is the 8mm plank in a 16.55 sq ft box, giving $3.56 per sq ft. Washed Driftwood is the 10mm plank in an 11.82 sq ft box, giving $4.99 per sq ft, and its title names an EVA pad.
Is driftwood flooring available in laminate?
Yes. Sandy Driftwood is a 12mm laminate plank in the Riche Toronto collection at $69.99 per 15.4 sq ft box, or $4.54 per sq ft. Engineered oak has a Driftwood colour at $4.99 per sq ft and a thicker-wear-layer version at $6.18 per sq ft. None of those are SPC vinyl, so the box coverage and build differ from the planks in this group.
Do these vinyl planks need a separate underlay?
If the product title names an attached EVA or IXPE pad, we add no separate underlay roll to the quote. For Driftwood Mist, Desert Sand, Sahara Shore, Rustic Taupe, West Coast Sand and Coastal Greige, where no pad is named, we confirm the underlay line when we price your floor.
How many boxes does a 400 sq ft room need?
With the 5% waste allowance included, the area becomes 420 sq ft. That is 26 boxes of Driftwood Mist at 16.55 sq ft each, 18 boxes of Blonde Sand Oak at 23.64 sq ft each, or 36 boxes of Desert Sand at 11.82 sq ft each. Boxes are sold whole, so the count rounds up.
Can I compare the colours before ordering?
Each colour has its own product page with the current price and coverage, and you are welcome to visit our Toronto showroom to compare colours in person. Bring your room measurements and the wall colour you are working around, and we can check coverage per box on your shortlist.
