Red oak is a classic North American hardwood known for its open, prominent grain and strong, even character, with a Janka hardness rating of 1,290 lbf. Because it is solid wood, the floor can be sanded and refinished over its service life, subject to the amount of usable wood remaining and professional assessment.
Solid hardwood is installed over a suitable subfloor and is intended for rooms that are not prone to moisture or large swings in humidity. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions, and have your installer assess the subfloor and site conditions before installation. Protect the floor from standing water, use felt pads under furniture, and clean with products made for hardwood flooring.
