A warmer kitchen starts with the two surfaces you choose on purpose: cream cabinets and a painted wall. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams both chose a green for 2027, and a green wall beside cream cabinets leaves the floor to carry the warmth. The planks that do that job on our shelves are the caramel, acacia and mocha vinyl planks in our vinyl plank collection, plus a walnut laminate, two of which cover a kitchen at $1.89/sq ft and $2.39/sq ft. Below: what the 2027 colour announcements actually say, how to pick a tone against cream cabinets, and what a 150 sq ft kitchen or a 350 sq ft open-plan kitchen and dining area costs in those floors, whole boxes included and, on the larger area, installation too.
What the 2027 paint announcements actually say
Benjamin Moore's 2027 Color of the Year is Webster Green HC-130, which the company calls a quintessential green that bridges timeless design with contemporary aesthetics, selected for its sophisticated composure. Sherwin-Williams also went green for 2027, naming Celery SW 6421, an airy, herbal green that the company says embodies fresh perspectives and elegance.
Both are wall colours, and what they change is the rest of the room: once the wall goes green and the cabinets stay cream, the floor becomes the third large surface and the one that has to keep the space warm. The whole-home version of that question, plank widths and buy-now-or-wait included, lives in our look at what flooring will be in style in 2027.
Choosing a floor tone against cream cabinets
Cream cabinets are not one colour, and neither is a warm floor. A cream with a yellow or beige undertone sits easily next to a plank in the same family: caramel, honey, tan, walnut. A floor several shades deeper than the cabinet gives contrast you can walk on, and one shade lighter keeps a small or north-facing kitchen bright. The decision is depth, not hue.
Against a green wall a brown wood-look floor needs no help from you. What you control is contrast: pale plank, cream cabinet and a green wall read light and quiet, while a mocha or walnut floor anchors the palette and makes the green look deeper beside it.
Two cautions. A grey-washed or driftwood plank tends to read cooler beside cream than it looked on the sample board, so hold one against your own cabinet door before ordering. And a strongly red-orange floor competes with a yellow-cream cabinet instead of settling it.
Cabinets at the other end of the scale get their own treatment in flooring colours for white, grey, navy and dark kitchen cabinets, and the pale-versus-natural oak question is settled in white-washed oak against natural oak.

Prices checked October 22, 2026. Box prices, coverage and specs come from our current listings.
Our vinyl collection holds 102 products in total, so the three vinyl planks above are a starting point rather than the whole shelf; the laminate and oak are two more warm options in stock. Watch the coverage column: a box of the 6mm plank covers 23.64 sq ft against 11.82 sq ft for the 10mm, which is why a 6mm box with a higher sticker price still divides out lower per square foot.
Toasted Caramel Oak is the deeper of the two golden planks and the one with the heavier wear layer: 20mil against 12mil on the 9mm and 6mm planks. In a kitchen where chairs get dragged out most evenings, the wear layer is the spec worth paying for.
Warm Acacia sits a shade lighter and more golden than the caramel plank, which is the tone the phrase warm oak kitchen flooring usually points to: enough colour to read as wood, light enough that a cream cabinet still looks clean against it. Its boxes cover 13.79 sq ft, so a kitchen lands on fewer boxes than the 10mm plank at a lower box price.
Warm Mocha Oak is the dark end of the warm range, and its $1.89/sq ft sits $1.40 below the 10mm plank in the price column, because each box covers twice the area. The trade is thickness: this is a 6mm plank against 10mm, and subfloor condition is checked before any click-lock plank goes down.
Near the sink and the dishwasher
The three SPC planks in the table are marked waterproof in their listings, and each title states the pad: EVA Pad Included on the 9mm plank, with EVA Pad on the 10mm, and with IXPE Pad on the 6mm. That means no separate underlay roll to buy. All three list a click-lock installation.
Water still has to be dealt with at the edges. Wipe spills as they happen, and have the cut edges and the transitions at the dishwasher and doorway sealed as part of the installation.
Whether a 12mm laminate belongs in your kitchen at all, and where a rigid SPC core is the safer call, is a question of its own: when laminate works in a kitchen and when SPC is safer. If the cabinets are staying and the floor goes in around them, dishwasher clearance is worked through in flooring before or after kitchen cabinets.
If you want walnut rather than oak, Amber Walnut is a 12mm EIR laminate in a plank 7.5 inches wide at $1.69/sq ft, at the entry end of the $1.69 to $4.29 range in the table. The budgets below price the vinyl planks only, so this laminate is not in them.
Two kitchen budgets: 150 sq ft and 350 sq ft
Two sizes cover a lot of kitchens: a closed kitchen around 150 sq ft, and a larger space around 350 sq ft where the floor runs past the island into the next room. This is the arithmetic we use when we price a job, written out so you can put your own measurements into it:
- Waste-adjusted area = floor area x 1.05, using our 5% waste allowance.
- Boxes = waste-adjusted area divided by the coverage per box, rounded up to a whole box.
- Material = boxes x box price.
- Labour = waste-adjusted area x the installation rate.
- HST = 13% of the subtotal.
Our vinyl installation rate for jobs over 300 sq ft is $1.50 per sq ft in a house or basement and $2.00 per sq ft in a condo. The 150 sq ft kitchen sits under that threshold, so its table shows materials only and installation is priced after viewing. The 350 sq ft area clears it, so labour is included there.
A 150 sq ft kitchen
| Floor | Boxes needed | Material | Installation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toasted Caramel Oak 10mm | 14 | $544.46 | Priced after viewing |
| Warm Acacia 9mm | 12 | $395.52 | Priced after viewing |
| Warm Mocha Oak 6mm | 7 | $312.76 | Priced after viewing |
With 13% HST the planks alone come to $615.24, $446.94 and $353.42. Each box count already carries the 5% allowance, and all three land on 165.48 sq ft of coverage, which is a little more floor than the 150 sq ft you measured.
A 350 sq ft open kitchen and dining area
| Floor | Boxes needed | Material | Labour | Subtotal | HST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toasted Caramel Oak 10mm | 32 | $1,244.48 | $551.25 | $1,795.73 | $233.44 | $2,029.17 |
| Warm Acacia 9mm | 27 | $889.92 | $551.25 | $1,441.17 | $187.35 | $1,628.52 |
| Warm Mocha Oak 6mm | 16 | $714.88 | $551.25 | $1,266.13 | $164.60 | $1,430.73 |
Those are house rates on a flat, sound subfloor. In a condo the same three jobs take $735.00 of labour instead of $551.25, which adds $183.75 before HST. Before HST the totals work out to $5.13, $4.12 and $3.62 per square foot of floor area. If your measurements differ, run them through the flooring budget estimator.
What is not in these numbers
- Taking up the floor you have now, and carting it away. Both are quoted once we see what is being lifted, since glued and floating floors are different jobs.
- Delivery, baseboards, quarter round, reducers and stair nosing. Trim follows your layout, and a staircase is priced as its own piece of work.
- Subfloor levelling or repair, and shaving a door that sits too low for the new floor.
- Installation of the laminate and the engineered oak in the table above. The budgets are for the vinyl planks only.
Condo kitchens come with their own building rules. Check those rules before you order, and send us the document with your request so the quote matches them.
Questions about warm floors with cream cabinets
What counts as warm kitchen flooring?
A plank with brown, caramel, honey or walnut in it rather than grey or ashy tones. Across the five floors above that runs from golden Warm Acacia through the deeper Toasted Caramel and Warm Mocha, and what changes between them is depth rather than hue.
Which floor tone suits cream cabinets and a green wall?
Match the undertone first, then choose how much contrast you want. Caramel and walnut deepen a bright kitchen, while a paler golden plank keeps a narrow or shaded one open. In this palette the wall is doing the bold work, so the floor only has to stay warm.
Is vinyl plank a sensible floor beside the sink?
All three carry a waterproof listing and name their pad in the title, EVA or IXPE, and they float over the subfloor as click-lock planks, which is what suits them to a room with splashes. The weak points are cut edges and transition strips, so ask for those to be sealed when the job is quoted.
How many boxes of plank do I order for a 150 sq ft kitchen?
150 sq ft plus a 5% allowance is 157.5 sq ft, which is 14 boxes of the 10mm plank, 12 of the 9mm or 7 of the 6mm. Each order covers 165.48 sq ft. A layout with many corners and closets needs more, which we check when we review your measurements.
Is installation priced differently in a condo kitchen?
Above 300 sq ft the condo rate is $2.00 per sq ft against $1.50 in a house or basement, charged on the waste-adjusted area. Below that size there is no published rate, and the job is priced after viewing.
