Riche's Toronto Collection laminate costs $4.54 per sq ft and carries an AC 3 Residential grade. The German AC5 laminate we stock runs $2.39 to $3.26 per sq ft. So why pay more for a lower wear grade? Because the AC number isn't what sets the price. For $69.99 a box you get a 12mm board with a 196mm-wide plank, Random EIR texture and a Valinge 2G drop lock with waxed joints, in ten colours that all cost the same. Below, we set it beside three German boards from our laminate flooring range so you can decide whether those features are worth the extra money for your rooms.
Quick answer: the $4.54 board against German AC5 laminate
- Price: $69.99 for a 15.4 sq ft box, or $4.54 per sq ft. All 10 colours are the same price and all 10 are in stock.
- Wear grade: "AC 3 Residential Grade". Egger EM7208 (AC5, $2.51 per sq ft) and Kronotex 2999 (AC5, $3.09 per sq ft) both have a higher grade and cost less per foot.
- What the premium pays for: Random EIR texture, the waxed Valinge 2G drop-lock joint and a 196mm x 1216mm plank. These appear on the Riche page but not on the German listings we compare here.
- In dollars: a 400 sq ft room with 5% waste, underlay and 13% HST comes to $2,383.98 in Riche material, compared with $1,404.54 for Egger EM7208 and $1,681.18 for Kronotex 2999.
- Verdict: with the Toronto Collection, you're paying for the look and the build details, not the wear rating. Choose it for residential rooms where the texture and plank size matter to you. Choose an AC5 board when grade or budget comes first.
The Toronto Collection spec sheet, read line by line
All ten colours have the same specs, so this one sheet covers the whole line.

Two of those lines matter most. Embossed in Register means the surface texture follows the printed grain, which the product page says makes the board feel closer to real wood underfoot. The lock is a Valinge 2G Drop Lock with waxed joints, which Riche says improves moisture protection and keeps the floor quiet. That's about the joints. It isn't a waterproof rating, and Riche doesn't claim one.
Plank size is the third thing to look at. At 196mm across, the board is slightly wider than the 7.60" Egger planks and the 7.4" Kronotex plank below, though the Kronotex is much longer. If you like a wide, calm floor with fewer side seams across the room, that width is part of what you're buying.
Every colour costs the same, so you can pick purely for the room. Light shades like Desert Sand and Sandy Driftwood sit at one end and Dark Tobacco at the other, with no price difference. Across the whole category, the Toronto Collection is in a price bracket of its own. We have 58 laminates in stock right now. The ten Toronto colours are the only ones above $3.59 per sq ft, and the other 48 are at or below that. The 15 in-stock boards whose titles say both AC5 and Germany run from $2.39 to $3.26 per sq ft, so the Toronto Collection costs $1.28 per sq ft more than the priciest of them. The 14 in-stock boards with AC3 in their titles run from $1.33 to $2.49 per sq ft. The Toronto Collection isn't in that count because its title doesn't include its grade.

A higher price is not a higher wear grade
The Toronto Collection is rated "AC 3 Residential Grade". Egger EM7206 is also AC3, rated for residential heavy traffic and light commercial use, and both AC5 boards are rated for commercial heavy traffic. The takeaway is simple: on grade, the Riche board doesn't beat the cheaper German boards, so the $4.54 is paying for something else.
Same AC3 label, $2.65 apart: Toronto Collection and Egger EM7206
Start with a grade-for-grade comparison. Egger EM7206 is also AC3 and sells for $40.48 per 21.42 sq ft box. That's $1.89 per sq ft, or $2.65 less per foot than the Riche board. The board itself is different, though. It's 8mm thick instead of 12mm, and the plank measures 7.60" x 50.87". Its listing names a Valinge click lock with no 2G or wax note, and it doesn't mention EIR texture.

Same 12mm thickness, AC5 for $1.45 less: Kronotex 2999
For a match on thickness, look at Kronotex 2999. It's 12mm and AC5, at $46.13 per 14.93 sq ft box, or $3.09 per sq ft. That's $1.45 per foot cheaper for a higher grade. The plank is 7.4" x 72.64", a lot longer than the Riche board's 48" and slightly narrower. Like the Eggers, its listing names the lock as Valinge with no 2G or wax note and doesn't mention EIR texture.
What the extra money does buy on paper
Compared with both boards, here's what the Riche premium gets you:
- Texture: Random EIR, which isn't listed for any of the three German boards.
- Joint detail: a Valinge 2G drop lock with waxed joints. The German listings name the lock as Valinge only, with no 2G or wax note.
- Plank shape: 196mm wide by 1216mm long, so a wide board of moderate length.
- Colour range at one price: 10 colours, all in stock, all at the same box price.
In short, you're paying for look and build detail, and the cheaper boards come out ahead on AC grade.
The gap in dollars: 400 sq ft of each board
Per-foot prices don't account for rounding up to full boxes, so we priced a 400 sq ft living and dining area the way we do our quotes. Each board goes through the same steps:
- Add 5% for waste: 400 x 1.05 = 420 sq ft.
- Divide by the box coverage and round up to full boxes.
- Multiply the boxes by the box price to get the material cost.
- Add underlay, which our laminate quotes include: 420 / 200 sq ft per roll = 3 rolls (rounded up) at $50.00, or $150.00. None of these four listings mentions an attached pad.
- Add 13% HST to the subtotal.

When the Toronto Collection is worth it, and when to pick AC5
Let the room and the spec sheet decide, not the brand name.
- Choose the Toronto Collection for residential rooms like bedrooms, living rooms or a family room, when you love one of its ten colours and the textured surface and wide plank are why you're looking at laminate.
- Choose Kronotex 2999 when you want 12mm thickness and AC5 for $3.09 per sq ft, and a long 72.64" plank suits the room.
- Choose Egger EM7208 when you want AC5 and cost matters. At $2.51 per sq ft, it's $2.03 per foot less than the Riche.
- Choose Egger EM7206 when budget comes first, the room is residential and you're happy with an 8mm AC3 board at $1.89 per sq ft.
- Look at Riche SPC vinyl if water is your main concern in the room. Riche has 87 SPC vinyl floors in stock at $2.66 to $5.08 per sq ft, so the Toronto laminate's price falls inside the range of the brand's own vinyl.

Is AC3 laminate flooring enough for a busy family home?
The Toronto Collection is a residential grade, made for homes rather than shops or offices. If your hallway or kitchen gets very heavy daily traffic, or you just want the extra margin of a commercial rating, an AC5 board is the stronger match on paper, and in this comparison it costs less per foot.
Why do some Toronto Collection web addresses spell the brand "richie"?
Some of our product web addresses use the spelling "richie", but every Toronto Collection product title says Riche Flooring. It's the same brand.
Do all ten Toronto Collection colours cost the same?
Yes. Every colour is $69.99 per box and covers 15.4 sq ft, so a light or dark colour costs the same for the same room.
How many boxes does a 12 x 14 ft bedroom need?
A 12 x 14 ft room is 168 sq ft, or 176.4 sq ft with the 5% waste allowance. That's 12 boxes at $69.99, for $839.88. One $50.00 roll of underlay covers it. With 13% HST, the material total is $1,005.56, not counting installation, removal, trim or delivery.
Is installation included in the $4.54 per sq ft price?
No, that's the material price only. Installation, removing the existing floor and delivery are extra and confirmed at quote. Underlay is listed separately.
