Goodfellow Laminate Review: 12mm AC5 at About $3 per Sq Ft, Made in Europe

Is Goodfellow's 12mm AC5 laminate good value next to Kronotex and Egger? We compare live box prices, coverage, thickness and listing details, then work through the whole-box maths.

Goodfellow's 12mm AC5 laminate starts at $3.00 per sq ft in our store, and the Kronotex and Egger AC5 boards we stock are priced in the same range. So is it good value? It is if you want the extra thickness and the water-resistance rating printed on its listings. Price alone does not separate it from Kronotex, and all four Egger 11mm AC5 boards come in under it. This Goodfellow laminate review works from our live listings: box price, coverage per box, thickness, click system and origin, set against Kronotex 4798 and Egger EM7208. Browse the full laminate flooring collection to see every colour. Treat it as a spec-and-price comparison rather than a long-term wear test.

Quick answer: Goodfellow, Kronotex and Egger at a glance

  • Goodfellow: seven 12mm AC5 laminates at $3.00 to $3.47 per sq ft, in boxes of 20.18 sq ft priced from $60.54 to $69.99.
  • Kronotex 4798: a 10mm AC5 board at $2.99 per sq ft, which is $0.01 below the $3.00 Goodfellow boxes.
  • Egger EM7208: an 11mm AC5 board at $2.51 per sq ft, which is $0.49 below those same Goodfellow boxes.
  • What Goodfellow adds: the thickest board of the three and a 72-hour water-resistance line that the Kronotex and Egger listings do not carry.
  • The catch: the three boxes hold 20.18, 19.37 and 16.15 sq ft, so the cheaper rate per sq ft does not give the cheaper order every time.

Goodfellow laminate prices by colour: seven boxes, three price points

Each of the seven Goodfellow boards in our catalogue lists the same thickness (12mm), the same AC5 rating, a click-lock install method and 20.18 sq ft per box. That leaves colour as the only thing moving the price. Here is every one, with the box price divided by coverage to give a per-sq-ft figure.

Goodfellow board Box price Coverage per box Per sq ft
Poznan No.045 $60.54 20.18 sq ft $3.00
Prag No.028 $60.54 20.18 sq ft $3.00
Revival No.031 $60.54 20.18 sq ft $3.00
Devine No.026 $60.99 20.18 sq ft $3.02
Peking No.012 $60.99 20.18 sq ft $3.02
Shanghai No.029 $60.99 20.18 sq ft $3.02
Canyon No.019 $69.99 20.18 sq ft $3.47

Prices checked October 4, 2026. Box prices and coverage come from our current catalogue, and all seven are in stock today.

Six of the seven sit within two cents of each other. Poznan, Prag and Revival are $60.54 a box, while Devine, Peking and Shanghai add $0.45 a box, which works out to $0.02 per sq ft. Canyon is the outlier at $9.45 more per box than the $60.54 group, or $0.47 per sq ft. Unless Canyon is the colour you have your heart set on, choose among the other six on look and not on price.

The two colours shown in this section are a useful pair for judging the price steps. Prag, above, reads as a mid grey with visible knots. Devine, below, is a lighter, softer grey with a straighter grain, and it is the $0.02 per sq ft step up.

What the Goodfellow listings say about water, click system and origin

Three lines on the Goodfellow product pages set them apart from the other two brands, and each needs reading carefully.

The 72-hour water-resistance line

The Goodfellow pages list a 72-hour water resistance rating. They do not say which test sits behind it, and the Kronotex 4798 and Egger EM7208 pages list no water-resistance figure at all, so there is nothing to set it against. Read it as a rating printed for that board, not as a promise that the floor is waterproof. If the room sees standing water, such as a laundry room, ask us before you order.

Unifit versus Valinge click

The Goodfellow pages name a Unifit click system, and the Kronotex and Egger pages name Valinge. All three describe a floating click-lock floor that goes down without glue or nails, and all three tell you to leave a 6 to 8mm gap around the perimeter. We list the system names so you can match them when you compare quotes. How the two systems differ in use is covered in our six-brand roundup, so we will not repeat it here.

Origin printed as Europe

The Goodfellow listings print "Made in Europe" and no country. Kronotex and Egger are printed as "Made in Germany". We cannot name a country for Goodfellow from that line, so do not assume Germany because the other two brands are German. If country of manufacture matters to your decision, say so when you request a quote and we will check what we can confirm.

Goodfellow, Kronotex and Egger side by side

This table puts one board from each brand on the same footing: the Goodfellow Prag at $3.00 per sq ft, the Kronotex 4798 and the 11mm Egger EM7208. The Egger EM7206 is added as a contrast because it is a thinner board with a lower rating, and it should not be compared with the AC5 boards on price alone.

Board Thickness and rating Click system on listing Box price / coverage Per sq ft
Goodfellow Prag No.028 12mm, AC5 Unifit $60.54 / 20.18 sq ft $3.00
Kronotex 4798 10mm, AC5 Valinge $57.92 / 19.37 sq ft $2.99
Egger EM7208 11mm, AC5 Valinge $40.48 / 16.15 sq ft $2.51
Egger EM7206 8mm, AC3 Valinge $40.48 / 21.42 sq ft $1.89

Goodfellow against Kronotex 4798

The rate per sq ft is one cent apart, so the real difference is what each board gives you for it. Goodfellow brings 12mm against Kronotex's 10mm, plus the water-resistance line. Kronotex has a lower box price, $57.92 against $60.54, because the box holds less. That is why the two need the whole-box maths in the next section before you can call a winner.

Goodfellow against Egger

Egger EM7208 is the clearest saving: $0.49 per sq ft less than the $3.00 Goodfellow boxes, in an 11mm AC5 board. Do not assume the whole Egger range is priced that way, though. Four Egger 11mm AC5 boards are listed from $2.51 to $2.99 per sq ft, three of them in stock today, and the other three sit at $2.99, a cent under Goodfellow. EM7208 is the exception at $40.48 a box. For the brand-level story on Egger and Kronotex, see our Egger, Kronotex and Swiss Krono comparison.

Same price per sq ft, different bill: the whole-box maths

You can only buy whole boxes, and the boxes are different sizes. The formula is simple: take your floor area, add 5% for cuts and waste (the allowance we build into every quote), divide by the sq ft in one box and round up. Multiply the boxes by the box price. For a 400 sq ft room, 400 sq ft plus 5% is 420 sq ft; 420 sq ft ÷ 20.18 sq ft = 20.81 boxes, rounded up to 21 boxes; and 21 boxes × $60.54 = $1,271.34 for Prag.

Here is the same sum for three reader-chosen areas. Figures are material only, before underlay, installation, delivery and HST.

Floor area Goodfellow Prag Kronotex 4798 Egger EM7208
250 sq ft (262.50 sq ft with waste) 14 boxes, $847.56 14 boxes, $810.88 17 boxes, $688.16
400 sq ft (420.00 sq ft with waste) 21 boxes, $1,271.34 22 boxes, $1,274.24 27 boxes, $1,092.96
650 sq ft (682.50 sq ft with waste) 34 boxes, $2,058.36 36 boxes, $2,085.12 43 boxes, $1,740.64

The cent-per-sq-ft gap between Goodfellow and Kronotex disappears in the rounding. At 250 sq ft Kronotex is $36.68 cheaper because both brands need 14 boxes and Kronotex's box is cheaper. At 400 sq ft the order flips and Goodfellow is $2.90 cheaper, and at 650 sq ft Goodfellow is $26.76 cheaper. Egger EM7208 comes in under both in all three rows, though it needs more, smaller boxes: 43 at 650 sq ft against 34 for Goodfellow. So measure your own rooms first and run the three totals before you commit to a brand.

Is 12mm worth choosing over 10mm or 11mm?

Thickness is the one headline number where the three boards clearly differ. Against Kronotex 4798, Goodfellow gives you 2mm more for a cent per sq ft. Against Egger EM7208 it gives you 1mm more for $0.49 per sq ft. Whether those millimetres change how the floor feels is something to judge with a plank in your hand, and our listings do not put a measured figure on it.

All three boards carry the same AC5 label, so thickness is the number left to weigh. Our guide to what AC ratings mean explains the label, and our guide to AC5 laminate brands in Toronto shows where Goodfellow sits among the brands we carry.

Goodfellow laminate review: which board suits which buyer

  • Choose Goodfellow if you want 12mm and the listed water-resistance line, and your floor area suits its 20.18 sq ft box. Pick among the six $3.00 and $3.02 colours on look.
  • Choose Kronotex 4798 if its look is what you want and the box maths lands in its favour, as it did at 250 sq ft above. You trade 2mm of thickness for a lower box price.
  • Choose Egger EM7208 if the material budget is the main limit. It saves the most per sq ft, still lists AC5 and 11mm, and needs more boxes to cover the same room.
  • Step back from the thin Egger board unless you want a lower rating on purpose: EM7206 is an 8mm AC3 laminate, so its $1.89 per sq ft is not a like-for-like saving.

What this review does not cover

We have no wear test results or customer ratings to quote, so this page says nothing about how any of these boards ages in a busy home. It also leaves out warranty terms, so read them in writing before you buy. Underlay, installation and delivery are quoted separately, which is why every dollar figure above is material only.

Goodfellow laminate FAQ

Is Goodfellow laminate good?

On the listings it is a 12mm AC5 click-lock laminate at $3.00 to $3.47 per sq ft, which is competitive with the German boards next to it. We cannot back that with wear data or reviews, so the practical next step is to see a plank in the light of your own room.

Goodfellow vs Kronotex laminate: which is better value?

It depends on the room. The listing price per sq ft is a cent apart, so box size decides the bill. Run your measured area through the whole-box formula for both boards and compare the totals, not the rates.

Egger vs Goodfellow laminate: how big is the price gap?

Egger EM7208 is $0.49 per sq ft below Prag, while three other 11mm Egger boards are $2.99, only a cent under Goodfellow. Compare like with like: the 8mm AC3 Egger at $1.89 is a different grade of board.

Where is Goodfellow laminate made?

Our listings print the origin as Europe and give no country, so we do not name one. The Kronotex and Egger listings state Germany. Ask us if you need documentation for your project.

Does the 72-hour rating make Goodfellow laminate waterproof?

No claim of that kind is made on the listing. It states a water resistance rating for the board and does not describe the test or the conditions. For a room that gets wet often, ask us before choosing any laminate.
